Visit to the Royal Albert Hall – Film Music Gala – Matinee – Saturday 9 May 2020 – 3:00 pm – Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

Dear Parents and Players

MYMS is again organising a very exciting visit to the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday 9 May 2020 to see the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra play in the matinee performance at 3:00 pm of their Film Music Gala.

Film Music Gala (Matinee)
Saturday 9 May 2020, 3pm | Royal Albert Hall

Celebrate the incomparable music of classic cinema and today’s biggest blockbusters in this sensational gala show, brought to you by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and performed within the magnificent surroundings of the Royal Albert Hall.

Hear the mesmerising music of the most iconic movie moments, from SUPERMAN, GLADIATOR, HARRY POTTER, E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL, INDIANA JONES, THE LORD OF THE RINGS, STAR WARS®, JURASSIC PARK… and more.

Also featuring the unforgettable songs from FROZEN, LA LA LAND, TITANIC, MARY POPPINS and THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, performed by guest star vocalist Louise Dearman (Wicked)!

It will be a really splendid concert and we have really good seats reserved in the Rear Circle.  They are normally priced at £31 per seat but we have again been able to negotiate a discounted price, which makes it tremendous value.

Tickets for the trip are:

  • Students [or school-age siblings or friends] – £20 per person, including both the coach and the concert;
  • Parents – £25 per person,  including coach and concert.

I have provisionally booked 106 seats at the Royal Albert Hall and two 53-seater coaches.

MYMS students can book places to go to the concert on their own – there will be a team of MYMS supervisors to chaperone them.  However, family groups are also encouraged if you want to make it a family day out and you can then include siblings and/or friends in your group.

Accurate timings will be confirmed nearer to the concert date.  It is likely that we shall meet in Huntsman Lane [outside Invicta GS] from 11:40 am and return at approximately 7:30 pm.

The application form – which includes the necessary boxes for consent and health information – is attached.  Please complete an individual form for each student [or sibling] by downloading from this link RAH 9 May 2020 Consent & Health Form.  Please note, each form has two pages to complete.

On this occasion, payment can be made by cheque [payable to MYMS].  Alternatively, payment can be made by cash – please hand any cash payments to me personally.  Envelopes can either be handed in at MYMS or posted to my home at Richard Gretton, 16 Sycamore Crescent, Allington, Maidstone, ME16  0AG.

At this stage, I don’t know whether there will be sufficient interest for us to be able to fill the two coaches.  We will therefore fill the first coach on a first-come-first-served basis and then create a reserve list.

Deadline date:  we would appreciate applications being made as soon as possible and, ideally, before Christmas.  One advantage of paying by cheque is that I won’t arrange with the MYMS Treasurer for them to be banked until we know that the trip is viable.  However, we will make the deadline date for applications the second MYMS Friday in January 2020 [Friday 17 January 2020]. Of course, applications can be posted to my home address at anyt time, including over the Christmas break.  However, the sooner you let me have your applications, the sooner I will be able to confirm the coach(es) and how many of the reserved tickets at the Royal Albert Hall we shall be using.

The concert is again being presented by Tommy Pearson, who used to play at MYMS.  I’m sure that – as before – he will give us a mention at some stage in the concert.  He already knows that we are planning to take a large party from MYMS to be in the audience at the matinee…..

PLEASE NOTE – the weekend which includes Saturday 9 May 2020 follows the VE Day Bank Holiday on Friday 8 May 2020 – when, as you will already know, MYMS will be closed.

If you do book to come, I will again make arrangements with Invicta GS for parents to park their cars securely in the school’s Albion Car Park [the one on the first left-hand bend in Huntsman Lane] during the time we are in London.  I have the key to the security padlock so they can be locked in safely.

I look forward to receiving your applications – and cheques.
